Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus vs. Giant Dorito?

Crash the Super Bowl ad submission Mega Shark vs. Giant Dorito

Last year the Internet literally blew up when the first (and only) trailer for The Asylum’s monster flick Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus hit the web.

OK, so the internet didn’t blow up in a literal sense but traffic and interest sure did spike when people got their first glimpse of what is quite possibly the coolest scene ever to grace the small screen – a giant prehistoric shark leaping from the ocean to chomp a 747 jetliner passing overhead!

The film managed to draw the eyes of sci-fi fans around the world, even though it starred former eighties singing sensation-turned-Playboy centerfold-turned-actress, Debroah (Debbi) Gibson, and former nineties hunk Lorenzo “Snake Eater” Lamas. There was never really a doubt that The Asylum was planning a sequel to Mega Shark vs. Octopus, even Gibson was optimistic when she stated during an interview with MTV:

I haven’t seen the final edit, but we did do a version that leaves the door open for a potential sequel. Because God knows what else is in the ocean. I thought maybe a seahorse? Maybe a 500-foot lobster would be good. But yes, there is the potential for a sequel, and I would absolutely love it.

By “love it” she apparently meant “I won’t be starring in it” because neither Lamas or Gibson will star in the next installment, titled Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. Instead, another former 80s/90s  star, Jaleel “Urkel” White (Family Matters) will watch these two prehistoric behemoths battle it out to the death. Joining him will be everyone’s favorite IAO  “Yes Man,” Robert Picardo (Stargate: Atlantis).

Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus is sure to be popular with fans of cheesy sci-fi films, but come January the rest of the world may get a chance to become acquainted with the beloved sharp-tooth predator. Some of the creators of Mega Shark have put together an ad and have submitted it to this year’s Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl Ad contest.

The results are quite hilarious and I for one can’t wait to see this ad win an advertising slot at the Super Bowl. Watch the video below:

You can watch a high quality version HERE.

The acting, directing and SFX are on par for a typical film made by The Asylum (read: often laughably bad) but for an advertisement such as this it really works. People like cheesy humor in their Super Bowl ads – which explains why the Bud Light commercials are always popular – and Mega Shark vs. Giant Dorito has “cheesy” humor in spades (sorry, had to do it).

Because you know there will eventually be a third film, who would you like to see Mega Shark battle next? I vote for Mega Shark vs. Sharktopus.

Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus brings the battle to DVD this Christmas, December 21, 2010.
