X-Men: First Class Cast Adds Ray Wise

Ray Wise Joins X-Men: First Class Cast

With production well underway and casting seemingly complete, there hasn’t been too many breaking news headlines for Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class as of late. That changes today with the somewhat surprise report that veteran actor Ray Wise (Reaper, 24) has signed for a role in the film.

Wise will play a political character in the X-Men prequel although we don’t know exactly what his name is or how he plays into the mutant story. He’ll be shooting as production makes its move stateside from London.

IGN has the news from speaking with Wise at the recent media event for Twin Peaks, a show for which he played a key role.

“I’m playing the Secretary of State of the United States. I’ll be going over there in the next couple of weeks.”

When asked for a little more detail on the project, Wise spoke highly of the talent behind and in front of the cameras for X-Men: First Class and revealed that his scenes definitely “touch on” the special effects side of things, hinting that he will share screen time with mutants. That, or he may even be one himself (unlikely). Time will tell.

Wise’s role will be relatively minor due to the timing of his climbing aboard the project although he’s certainly a welcome addition to the franchise. He joins a star-studded cast which includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne, Oliver Platt, Jason Flemyng and January Jones.

Unlike many of the previous X-Men: First Class casting reports, notably the mutant roster of characters, this casting decision raises no confusion or questions about the plot, continuity or how it relates to the comics. It’s kind of refreshing.
