Olivia Wilde Testing for the Role of Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel

This past weekend, Warner Bros. made a huge splash with its announcement that Tudors actor Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel.

But what is a man (or a Superman) without a strong woman behind him?

Tonight, the scoop artists at Latino Review exclusively reported that TRON: Legacy star Olivia Wilde is in talks with Warner Bros. to play Lois Lane in the Superman reboot.

The confirmation comes from an inside source who is working on the upcoming Olivia Wilde film Kin, which co-stars Eric Bana. According to LR’s source, the dates of that film may potentially be pushed back depending on whether or not Wilde gets the part in Superman.

In addition to confirming that Olivia Wilde is in contention for the role, Latino Review is also reporting that Rachel McAdams is also up for the part. Earlier today, the Australian site What’s Playing ran a report that claimed Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Dianna Agron, Malin Ackerman, Kristen Bell, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead also were rumored for the role.

It should be no surprise that Olivia Wilde is in the running to play Lois Lane. The 26-year-old actress is the right age to match up with Henry Cavill, and she’s one of the hottest stars in Hollywood. Anytime a new female part is being debated, it seems like Wilde is in the discussion.

Likewise, Rachel McAdams could be another favorite for the role. At 32, McAdams is older than Cavill, but she doesn’t look her age and she has much more of a traditional Lois Lane look. The question is, what kind of Lois Lane does Zack Snyder want to bring to the big screen?

For what it’s worth, I think both Wilde and McAdams would make a good Lois Lane. With the former, you get an edgier more modern look for the character. With the latter, you get a look that better fits the traditional/serious reporter Lois Lane. Either one could be a strong casting decision.

With rumors openly floating around the web and auditions in full swing, I’m willing to bet that we’ll hear lots of casting news from Superman in the coming weeks. Ironically, I’m actually more interested in hearing what the film will actually be about.

In the past, Zack Snyder has said that the movie will follow the early days of Superman, but won’t be based on any specific comics. Apart from that, we know that General Zod isn’t the villain in the movie, and that’s about it.

Olivia Wilde Happy To Be Back To Work On ‘House’

When Olivia Wilde’s character Thirteen surprisingly exited  House and embarked on a mysterious journey, fans have been when wondering when the numerically-labeled physician would be making her triumphant return to the hit Fox series.

During a press junket for the highly-anticipated Tron: Legacy, Wilde spoke to us about finally returning to the halls of Princeton-Plainsboro.

“Since doing Tron, I’ve been able to go back to House and have [had] a lot of fun doing that.”

Additionally, when asked whether she’ll be back on House for the long run or whether this is just a one-off to wrap up her character’s storyline, Wilde said:

“Oh, yes, I’ll be back on House. I’m blessed to be a part of a show that has allowed me to do these films while doing the show; it’s unusual and they’ve been very gracious.”

A refreshing revelation for House fans, no doubt. With Cameron’s departure from the series, Thirteen was left to battle the ominous cane wielding diagnostician on her own. While Cuddy often helped serve as proverbial backup, there’s nothing like having a strong female character in the room with House, Taub, Chase and Foreman while they’re doing their differentials on the patient of the week.

With the introduction of Amber Tamblyn’s character, Martha Masters, she managed to surprisingly fill many of the character gaps left by Thirteen when she abruptly exited. In the end, Masters proved to be a wonderful addition to the series with the perfect mixture of House and Cuddy all wrapped up in one genius med student.

Of course, while Masters was a terrific character that provided much fodder for House’s cannon and someone that could easily become a permanent member of his team and subsequently the show, her character was socially paralyzed and often failed to emotionally connect with the familiar physicians in the way that Thirteen was able to.

Although, with David Shore being so supportive of Wilde’s constant comings and goings, one has to ask whether the famed creator has given up one of the characteristics that he has stood by since the series beginning.

When Jennifer Morrison was leaving House, she stated that Shore has always been very true to the writing of the characters and what he believes them to be. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Shore has lost any creative credibility, but when someone who writes what’s true to the character is met with filming schedules from Tron: Legacy and Cowboys & Aliens, that doesn’t exactly lend itself to fit within those creative boundaries of being able to tell the true story of those characters’ journeys.

Ultimately, as always, you either work with it, or…. there’s a mysterious suicide all of a sudden because one of your actors decided that he wanted to work at the White House, only to quit after several months. Weird.

While no specific date has been announced for Thirteen’s return, with Wilde currently back on set, one can estimate that you’ll be seeing her on House sometime in January/February.

Christian Slater is ‘Breaking In’ to Comedy For Fox; Replacing ‘Running Wilde’

Christian Slater is returning to television with Breaking In… Only this time, he’s going to be funny – we hope.

Shortly after the news that Fox would not be ordering any more episodes of Will Arnett’s failed series Running Wilde, it was announced that the network would be picking up the Sony TV/Happy Madison produced comedy series.

If you’re unfamiliar with Breaking In, here’s the official synopsis from Fox:

Breaking In is an offbeat half-hour workplace comedy about a high-tech security firm that takes extreme – and often questionable – measures to sell their protection services. Created by Adam F. Goldberg (“Fanboys”) and Seth Gordon (“Four Christmases” and the upcoming “Horrible Bosses”), the series centers on a team of uniquely skilled oddball geniuses hand-picked to work for a manipulative mastermind. Starring Christian Slater (“The Forgotten”), Bret Harrison (“Reaper”) and Odette Yustman (“You Again”).

While Running Wilde has not yet been officially canceled, the signs certainly point in that direction. With Fox picking up the new comedy series Breaking In, the network will most likely use it to replace the failed series – and pair it with the hit freshman comedy Raising Hope.

Originally developed as a series for last season, Breaking In actually tested well with focus groups and received a lot of buzz. Unfortunately, the series didn’t make the cut.  Thankfully, instead of completely giving up on it, Fox came back a month later and order two additional scripts.

Each year, Christian Slater has been returning in a new series and each new series has subsequently been canceled. While The Forgotten certainly deserved it, his failed NBC drama My Worst Enemy was actually quite good. Unfortunately, it couldn’t pull in the ratings that it needed to succeed.

While it’s hard to tell if Breaking In will be any different, it does have Slater’s unflattering television history to overcome. Hopefully, this time, Slater has found a series that will solidify his return to television for longer than three months.

Let’s hope what they say is true… Third time’s a charm.
