What can I expect from Gateway tech support after purchase of new computer? Heard bad reports.?

Question by jac91: What can I expect from Gateway tech support after purchase of new computer? Heard bad reports.?
I’m thinking of buying a new Gateway desktop computer but have gotten bad reports on tech support after the sale. Anyone with any advice?

Better than HP, but so is asking a stranger on the street. I’ve called them – they’re no worse than any other level 1 support people, and a lot better than some.

Coca Cola vending machines to support mobile payments

November 26 2010 by admin in News |

Soft drink behemoth Coca Cola is working with european payments specialist PingPing to incorporate NFC (Near Field Communication) into its vending machines, incorporating it into machines in Belgium and Luxembourg before the end of 2010.

NFC is a short-range wireless technology that allows the exchange of data between devices. By outfitting its vending machines with the technology, Coca Cola will enable consumers to simply hold their NFC tag (currently a sticker on a mobile phone) in front of the the reader on the vending machine to make payment for their beverage.

As Mobile Entertainment notes, the functionality could soon be built into the SIM card of a handset.

Coca Cola’s announcement comes shortly after US mobile operators announced they would be combining to offer a wireless payment system for their customers. NFC is gradually starting to be adopted as the next generation in mobile payments, coming away from internet based transactions and ushering in a new contactless way to purchase.

As Stijn Vander Plaetse, VP Innovation at Belgian operator Belgacom notes:

“After the success of contactless payment in the mobility field, this partnership with the major player in the beverage sector again demonstrates the soundness of our innovative strategy which aims to transform the mobile phone into an electronic wallet.

“We are convinced that PingPing can offer a simple, efficient solution for small, daily purchases.”

UK carriers won’t support the Palm Pre 2

November 14 2010 by admin in Gadgets |

According to a report by Pocket-lint, the Palm Pre 2 won’t see a home on any of the major carriers in the UK meaning it’s not going to be possible to get on contract.

Orange, Vodaphone, Three and O2 have all responded with a resounding ‘no’ when asked whether or not they had plans to carry the device. It’s not entirely shocking that Orange, Vodaphone and Three took a pass but the fact that O2 decided not to carry the webOS 2.0 device is quite interesting.

They have sold and will apparently continue to sell the original Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus. Here’s what they had to say:

The Palm Pre Two will not be available on O2. We offer a range of the best handsets through our product portfolio and regularly review this to ensure it continues to meet the demands of our customers. We’ve always offered our customers a choice of experiences when they come to buy a new phone and we were excited to add webOS and the Palm Pre to our range. We’re still fans of webOS – the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are available from us today – but won’t be taking the Palm Pre Two.

So, if you were hoping to get your hands on a Palm Pre 2 in the UK, you’re going to have to do it SIM-free, at least for now.  That version of the device costs £399 and will now apparently be sold without a carrier.
