Images From ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′, ‘Hangover 2′, ‘Sucker Punch’ & More!

Warner Bros 2011 image preview - Sherlock Holmes 2, The Hangover 2

Warner Bros. has released a preview kit for its slate of movies being released between January 2011 and December 2011. Included are some of the first images for some highly anticipated movies – as well as their synopses to clue you in.

Included in the preview are such as movies as Sherlock Holmes 2, The Hangover 2, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Sucker Punch, The Rite, Final Destination 5, Red Riding Hood, Hall Pass, Unknown, Born To Be Wild, Something Borrowed, Horrible Bosses, and The Apparition.

That’s a lot of movies to preview so let’s get started, shall we?

We have the first official image from Sherlock Holmes 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the hit re-imagining of the classic detective character. Guy Ritchie returns to direct (a job he took on instead of directing Lobo) Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law return to star. This time the duo is joined by the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace.

Check out the first image from Sherlock Holmes 2 featuring Downey, Law and Rapace together:

Guy Ritchie helms a new action-packed adventure, following the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.), and his longtime trusted associate, Dr. Watson (Jude Law), as they match wits with their arch-nemesis, the criminal genius Moriarty (Jared Harris).

I’m so glad to see Rapace has hit the big time after her brilliant turn as Lisbeth Salander in “The Millenium Trilogy” – she’s rumored for many other big roles, including Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels. But as great as it is to see her doing well in Hollywood, I really don’t want to see her settle for starring roles in a string of sequels.

Sherlock Holmes 2 hits theaters on December 16th, 2011.

Next up we have the first official image and the synopsis from another highly-anticipated movie – The Hangover 2. The first film was such a (surprise) monster hit, so I don’t think anyone will be shocked to hear the filmmakers are churning out another one.

One of the absolute key things that made the first film work was the chemistry between the four main characters – and it’s good to see the whole gang is back for more crude shenanigans.

Take a look at the first image from The Hangover 2 featuring Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zack Galifianakis), and Doug (Justin Bartha), followed by the official synopsis which finally reveals why the gang are going to Thailand:

In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy “The Hangover,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined.

The Hangover 2 opens in theaters on May 26th, 2011.

Moving on we have an image from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the much anticipated second part to the final Harry Potter film. If you’ve been following the promo materials for Deathly Hallows (how could you possibly not be?) then you’ll recognize this image which features Lord Voldemort grabbing Harry by the throat.

Take a look at the image below (we’ve seen the image on its own before but this is the proper version courtesy of WB):

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 new image - Harry and Lord Voldemort

In Part 2 of the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the Wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Nevertheless, the film definitely had a lot of great moments (not to mention the best acting we’ve seen from the lead trio thus far) and I’m sure Part 2 will deliver the spectacular showdown the franchise has been building to for almost a decade.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hits 3D, IMAX, and regular theaters on July 15th, 2011.

Continue to Sucker Punch, Red Riding Hood, and more…

Bill Clinton & Paul Giamatti To Appear In ‘The Hangover 2′

Paul Giamatti to star in The Hangover 2

Todd Philips and his Hangover crew are off wreaking havoc in Thailand in The Hangover 2, the sequel to their 2009 hit comedy.

Now The Hangover 2 has added an Oscar-nominee to its cast and even managed to snag a former U.S. president to make a cameo in the film, which will also feature a brief appearance by Liam Neeson.

Deadline has confirmed that Paul Giamatti is officially onboard for The Hangover 2 in an as yet unknown role. The man – whose presence in a movie is always a plus – got up to drunken antics of the slightly more somber kind back in 2004's Sideways and his appearance in this year’s Barney’s Version has been generating Oscar buzz for a while now. Giamatti is a versatile performer who lends an air of authenticity to even his comedic roles and he’ll be a delight to see onscreen alongside the likes of Ed Helms or Zach Galifianakis.

Former U.S. president Bill Clinton was in the capital city of Thailand over the weekend and shot a brief cameo for the Hangover 2, according to People. Is there anything more appropriate than having a (former?) political playboy like Clinton turn up in a Todd Philips’ raunchfest?

Main cast of The Hangover

There’s no word yet as to what sort of mischief Bradley Cooper, Helms, and Galifianakis will be getting up to in The Hangover 2, though the tomfoolery this time around looks to include a tattoo parlor and Galifianakis becoming a monk (or, at least, shaving off the scruffy mop atop his head).

The Hangover actually had an amusingly mysterious plot that became increasingly complicated as the main trio of characters suffered the repercussions of misremembered acts of debauchery. Hopefully the sequel will up the ante even more.

Philips and Galifianakis’ most recent collaboration, Due Date, is doing well enough in theaters, but the next Hangover promises to be more of a no-holds-barred venture, ripe with deliciously low-brow humor and over-the-top physical comedy – which is exactly what we all want  to see anyway, right?

The Hangover 2 arrives in theaters in the U.S. on May 26th, 2011.

Liam Neeson Talks Cameo in ‘Hangover 2′ Plus New Set Photos

The Hangover 2 set photos in Thailand

Last year, The Hangover scored big with audiences by delivering raucous action, raunchy humor, and a genuinely intriguing mystery.

Indeed, the movie was so successful that many have wondered whether the Thailand-based sequel will be able to outdo its predecessor.

Back in October, director Todd Phillips promised that The Hangover 2 would deliver some “some f@#$ed-up surprises.” While there’s no reason to doubt Phillips, thus far the only glimpse of the movie we’ve seen has been beyond benign (unless you think photos of the actors walking through the airport is exciting).

Thankfully, TMZ got a hold of some set photos that hint at the movie’s plot as well as some of the crazy antics the guys will be getting into.

Check out the set images below. These images, and the discussion after them, should be considered SPOILERS, so if you want to be totally surprised, you should probably move on.

Ed Helms Gets a Tribal Face Tattoo in The Hangover 2

Zach Galifianakis has a Shaved Head on the set of The Hangover2

Looking at these photos, two questions immediately come to mind: Why is Zach Galifianakis bald, and why did Ed Helms get a Mike Tyson-style face tattoo? As to the former question, TMZ claims that Galifianakis’ character shaves after becoming a monk. Given that the movie is set in Thailand, this definitely makes sense.

As to the face tattoo, it jives with previous reports that Liam Neeson would play a tattoo artist for his cameo role. Interestingly, however, Neeson recently told People Magazine that he wouldn’t be playing that role after all. According to the article, “Neeson revealed his part is being filmed at a movie studio in Los Angeles and shot down rumors he’ll play a tattoo artist – but would not reveal what his role will actually be.“

It’s interesting that Neeson “shot down” rumors about playing a tattoo artist when the “rumors” were based on his direct quote to Variety. Could it have been that he wasn’t supposed to reveal his role, and now he’s just running damage control? Whatever the case, I’m sure that the explanation for Helms’ new look will be just as entertaining as the reason why he woke up missing a tooth in the first Hangover.

What do you think of these new set photos? Any thoughts on the potential plot for The Hangover 2?

The Hangover 2 is currently slated for release on May 26, 2011.
