World’s Lightest Touchphone – Modu T Is In India Now, Courtesy Micromax

Modu T features a 2.2-inch touch screen, a pre bundled 2GB memory card extensible up to 32 GB and is priced at Rs. 12,000. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Brew operating system. The phone has functionalities and applications for web access and instant messaging, direct links to different social networks, a built in FM radio, GPS, music player and some other features which are quite expected from a (smart) phone of this age.

The most interesting feature of the device is the “fy jackets” that can be used to modufy (read modify) the capability of the handset. Once connected, these “fy” jackets enhance the functionality of the phone so that users can enjoy additional features based on how they want to use their phone. This phone comes with the following two fy jackets:

Camerafy jacket that converts the phone into a camera with a 5 megapixel resolution and LED flash.Sportfy jacket that turns it into an exercise companion and personal trainer.Other plans of Micromax

The idea behind this launch is to capture the so called ‘aspirational’ segment of Indian consumers- the ones who are early adopters of technology and passionate about electronic gadgets. At the launch event, Vikas Jain, the business director of Micromax also hinted at the possibility of foraying into the tablets market. Looking at the track record of Micromax, a company which prides itself for being “Nothing like anything”, it should not come as a surprise. After all, Tablets are the latest buzz in the industry.

Thanks to some trendy handsets backed by powerful features and impressive price tags, Micromax, has earned quite a name in the cell-phones market so far.  Let’s see if it can create a similar buzz in the Tablets market. But that will take some time. For now, let’s focus our attention back to the Modu T. It will be interesting to see how this device fares in the market. The smartphone market is hot at the moment with the launch of some new devices almost on a weekly basis. And all these devices claim to be better than the rest.  Given such a scenario, do you think that Modu T is packed with the juice that would prevent it from going into oblivion?
