The latest news from overseas media, the Eric Schmidt, Google CEO, summit in 2010 – Activate, insisted that the electronic products are leading the brand-new fashion, and become the mainstream of people getting news, cell phones have become the key technology development, the world many top field opening and development teams were sent in the cell phone platform development work. But the key is, the developer in application development, as a first consideration of the cell platform, and then we will consider the Windows and apple Mac platform etc.

The Eric Schmidt said the development trend of the computing technology including computing clouds, networking and cell Internet and cell Internet growth compared with our real life is more closely, so every large manufacturer will focus on cell phone Internet. At Google in cell Internet domain has its own unique advantages, and by increasing the Android smartphone equipment in this advantage.

The Eric Schmidt thinks that many enterprises in the technology industry are actually is the destruction of their causes, the enterprise is always the same mistake, and committed to innovation, is not willing to turn a blind eye to the things for innovation and development and must take risks, thus finally unable to adapt to the development of technology and eventually ruin.

Woz’s tour through computing history (and his favorite iPhone apps)

This morning was a real thrill for me. Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder, gave me, and about 20 other journalists, a tour through computing history while giving us a sneak peak at the 25,000-square foot new “Revolutions” exhibit, which opens January 13th. Here’s a panoramic photo of Woz doing an interview in front of the Apple I inside the personal computer exhibit, which is only a small part of the Revolutions exhibit. It wasn’t lost on me that I was the first one to use the new Occipital iPhone app, just released this week, to make this image.

Next week we’ll have our videos of this event, plus a private interview Woz gave us, up on Building43.

It was a great thrill talking with Woz again. For those who don’t know, he really got me started in technology journalism, both by being my first celebrity interview (I met him while we both took classes together at West Valley Community College) but later I talked him into donating $40,000 worth of Macs (back in 1989) to our journalism department and Rich Cameron, the journalism teacher back then, made me set them up and learn how to make them really work. It was the best educational experience I’ve ever had and one I’ll always be in debt to both Steve and Rich for.

I talked with Woz about growing up in Cupertino, just a short distance from Apple Computer (now just called, well, “Apple”) and I told him I helped Hyde Jr. High unbox its first Apple II computers back in 1977 (I was in the first computer club back then) and that my mom worked for Hildy Licht building Apple II mother boards (she hired me to stuff the boards — I earned a few cents allowance for each one we did).

Anyway, the new museum exhibit is pretty damn cool. If you are a geek it’s a must-visit. Bring a kid and try to inspire him or her to do the next innovations.

Here’s an audio interview I did with the museum’s CEO, John Hollar, right after Woz gave us his tour.

We’ll be there for the official opening on January 13th, too (there’ll be another press preview on January 11th — none of the exhibits today were finished, so it’ll be interesting to see it after it’s all put together).

Of course, at the end, I asked Woz which iPhone apps he likes the most. Siri, he started out. One of my favorite interviews this year was done with the team that funded Siri.

I’ll get back in touch with him to talk more about iPhone apps he uses. He was being pulled to do something else, and we didn’t get to cover that in enough depth. Anyway, what a day and what a great museum.

iDuple – Indian Company announces Mobile Cloud Computing Device

On paper, the idea seems pretty interesting even though the finer details are not available at this time. The device has the form factor of a tablet and boasts of a 5 second boot time. There is no software, other than the browser. No hard disk either. All processing and storage will be done on powerful servers and rendered on the device. It is expected to have WiFi and 3G variants.

Users will be offered upto 50GB of storage on the cloud, I’m guessing premium services for additional storage will be a source of revenue as well. Obviously, with a large volumes of data on the cloud, security becomes an issue. The company has assured prospective users on its blog that privacy of data will be taken care of. It goes on to say that it will also offer private cloud services for businesses. They will also have the option of connecting to multiple webtops and even configure the device to work with their own cloud platforms.

The demo of these Webtops can be found at their homepage. I played around with it for a while. It had a very Windows-esque feel to it Start Menu et al, aside from the iOS like multiple home screen feature. There were a couple of useful applications on it as well. Since it was a demo, the amount I could tinker with them was limited.

A lot of specifics about the device such as price, size etc have not mentioned at this stage.

‘It all started as a dream, inspired by the desire to touch human lives. A dream motivated by the promise of an affordable technology, perfected by dozens of discussions and debates with friends and industry veterans and evolved over tens of thousands of man-hours of design and engineering.’ This is how they begin their post announcing the device. Let’s hope this dream translates into a reality.

Once that happens, competing or even carving a niche for themselves in the crowded tablet space with several industry bigwigs will be a different ball game altogether.
