SR Pick [Video]: ‘Machete’ – The Lipton Brisk Version

Danny Trejo as Machete in the Lipton Brisk commercial

Last summer’s Grindhouse spin-off Machete got a lot of bad political press because of the way it dealt with the topic of illegal immigration, but if you tuck all the personal political feelings aside the film was made just like Danny Trejo -- mean, wrinkled and bad as hell!

Machete turned out to be nothing more than a campy B-movie filled with over-the-top violence, nudity and gore -- but if in your mind those things combine to make a good movie, then you should enjoy video we have below.

For the past few years, Lipton Brisk Iced Tea has been producing some great stop-motion animated commercials using some iconic scenes and actors -- Rocky (voiced by Sylvester Stallone) in the ring, John McClain (voiced by Bruce Willis) fighting off George Jefferson, and Bruce Lee battling the Karate Kid -- all of these commercials featured heroes in dire straits, and just when it looks like their time is up, they drink some refreshing Lipton Brisk Iced Tea and put the beat down on some bad guys.

The Machete commercial below is the same, except this time they tell the entire story of the film in sixty-five seconds! Watch below to be amazed and entertained:

The creators behind these commercials are very talented and that talent shines through on each and every one of their videos. I’ve included the Rocky, John McClain and Bruce Lee videos at the end of this article for you to enjoy as well. While these videos are truly awesome and entertaining, I can only wonder why they wouldn’t wait for the upcoming Super Bowl to wow a large audience instead of a minor unannounced released on YouTube?

Either way, I’ll be waiting for the next Lipton Brisk commercial to come out, featuring another of Hollywood’s leading men -- perhaps Rutger Hauer as the Hobo with a Shotgun or Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter will be next?

Bruce Lee vs. The Karate Kid

Rocky Balboa

John McClain vs. The Jeffersons

Who would you like to see idolized next by the Lipton advertising department?

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 ‘Fans First Event’ Video Coverage Ahoy

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Pirates Fans First

“Yo ho, Yo ho, it’s a Screen Rant life for me!” is what all the Swashbucklers said at the Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides “Pirates Fans First!” event at AMC’s Downtown Disney Theater in Disneyland earlier this week.

We arrived at the event at 5:30 in the morning with all the other bleary eyed, but devoted, Captain Jack Sparrow lovers for the 3D premier of the Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides trailer.

Director Rob Marshall himself was there to introduce the trailer and speak to the press about the upcoming fourth installation in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

For all the details on the casting, locations, character arcs, and plot details for On Stranger Tides, make sure to check out our interview with Rob Marshall.

Two lucky Screen Rant scalawags, I mean readers, were representing at the event. They won their loot through our “Pirates Fans First!” contest and giveaway. The event included the opportunity to be one of the very first to see the 3D trailer, eat breakfast on Disney, grab a photo with some Pirates paraphernalia, and spend the day riding the rides, and raiding the booty at Disneyland.

Not a bad haul for sending in an email and comment.

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Pirates Fans First Event

We had the chance to chat with them, as well as several other buccaneers, about Pirates, the event, and their response to the trailer. We also had a bit of fun in the editing with our friend George Roush, aka elquapo, of AMC and Latino Review — see if you can spot him in the video.

For a lighthearted and silly “inside look” at the winsome wenches (very nice ladies) and wine (coffee, tea, and juice) that were enjoyed at the event, click here to watch our video Pirates Fans First!.

For a bit more… polished video of the event, check out Disney’s coverage below:

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides just finished shooting at exotic locations all around the world and is currently in post-production – scheduled for release in 2011.

Video: LG’s dual-core Tegra 2 Android handset

December 2 2010 by admin in Gadgets |

Yesterday, LG’s dual-core Android handset known as Star, surfaced in some pretty pictures. However, pictures have nothing on video and that is exactly what the Star popped up on tonight. In a lengthy video narrated in Hebrew, the unannounced device is given the full tour which showcases its gorgeous looking hardware and software.

As a bonus, we’re also treated to a little side-by-side showdown with the iPhone 4 towards the end.

Enough talking, here’s the video:

So what you’re seeing there is a device that has a 4 inch screen, dual-core Tegra 2 processor, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p support, along with a front facing camera and microUSB and microSD support. Right now, it’s also running Android 2.2 however it should be arriving with Gingerbread when it drops in Q1 of next year. Oh, and if that video wasn’t enough to get you excited, here are some high-res shots.

Are you drooling yet?

Playstation Phone gets captured on video, almost confirms its existence

December 2 2010 by admin in Gadgets |

Sony Ericsson has the mobile world all aflutter with reports that it might release a “Playstation Phone”, an Android-powered smartphone-cum-gaming device that has emerged in numerous spy shots and leaked reports but hasn’t had so much as an official confirmation that it exists.

The internet has come to the rescue again, this time offering up footage of what is said to be the Playstation Phone in all its glory, minus any actual demonstration of the Playstation part of the handset. What it does show is the phone in use, giving you enough of a glimpse of the phone for you to be able to match it up against the leaked stills and confirm it is the same device.

So, the phone is in circulation, albeit a small one. Prizes to whoever gets the first real hands-on with the device uploaded, we’re sure we aren’t the only ones who are eager to see how this handset handles the gaming elements.

Creepy Cool ‘Black Swan’ Music Video

Natalie Portman Black Swan trailer music video

Arguably the most anticipated movie until TRON: Legacy hits theaters is Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. The film has been greeted with early rave reviews from nearly every person who has seen an advance screening. Fox Searchlight now presents a new music video that seconds as an updated trailer for the film, complete with flashy, frenetic shots set to intense music.

The marketing campaign has introduced Black Swan as a psychological thriller that keeps your heart beating. Aronofsky’s style has always been unique, typically favoring an unconventional story that is twisted into an even more unconventional film. Yet, his most acclaimed film, The Wrestler, was also his least complex (in terms of form, at least). Black Swan appears to be right in the middle.

The first Black Swan trailer grew more intense as it progressed, peaking at an emotional ending that sent chills through my body. The new music video reinvigorates those chills, but the intensity is present from start to finish. It plays out like a trailer version of the viral website, I Just Want To Be Perfect. Each day, the site adds a short clip from the movie as a countdown to the December 3rd release date.

If you are still skeptical that Natalie Portman can be scary as all hell, you haven’t seen this short video. Watch the flashy music video below, courtesy of Apple.

I didn’t need any more reason to see Black Swan, but that moment at :50 mark in the music video has me wondering if Portman will jump from my dreams to my nightmares. She is one of the most charming, beautiful woman in Hollywood, in my opinion. Her petite frame and wide-ranging abilities on screen make her endlessly appealing. But Portman appears instantly believable in her insanely enraged mindset.

Coupled with a fantastic director, she has been heralded as the frontrunner for Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards. If her apparent rise to insanity in Black Swan is as enthralling as the trailers suggest, Portman may walk home with an Oscar.

The other unseen star of Black Swan has been the music. We don’t really know what it sounds like just yet, but Clint Mansell, who frequently collaborates with Aronofsky, explained some time ago that his inspiration was Tchaikovsky’s original “Swan Lake”. If the opening beat to this music video is a part of his original score, we may be in for yet another special soundtrack – did you honestly expect anything less, though?

Like the movies, there are no other original scores I look forward to more than Black Swan and TRON: Legacy. Snippets of Daft Punk’s TRON: Legacy score have been presented in music videos similar to the one above, but Clint Mansell’s Black Swan tracks have been kept under wraps. Murmurs on Twitter from other movie critics have been loaded with praise.

Music of Black Swan in music videoThe music of ‘Black Swan’

If the music video is any inclination of the drug-filled sexual encounter between Portman and Mila Kunis in Black Swan, we are in for one trippy scene. The entire movie will likely play tricks on your mind with flash cuts and optical illusions, but the music video is our closest look at the style of Black Swan and the high-powered dramatic attack the film offers.

Are you desperately awaiting the release of Black Swan or will you hold out to see how the masses feel about it?

Black Swan releases in limited theaters on December 3rd and opens wider over the following weekends.

SR Pick [Video] Fan-Made Captain America Comic-Con Trailer

Fan-Made Captain America trailer

Even though director Joe Johnston and star Chris Evans were only four days into shooting Captain America: The First Avenger, they still made an appearance on stage for San Diego Comic-Con this summer and brought with them a near-completed scene featuring Hugo Weaving’s pre-scarred Red Skull character, Johann Schmidt. While they hadn’t shot any footage with Evans in the Captain America outfit at the time, they did offer two quick shots of his costume test for the fans.

Had there been a few months in between production and the convention, those of us in the infamous 6000-person Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center would have been privy to a full Captain America trailer. It undoubtedly would leak online in some awful and unfair quality and it would look something like this fan-made trailer.

The viral trailer starts off incorrectly with the Twentieth Century Fox logo (Fox has nothing to do with Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, etc.) but goes right into the action, using scenes from Unbreakable, Iron Man, The Wolfman, The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy, The Rock, Saving Private Ryan and others.

The most interesting part of the video is how it actually looks like it was bootlegged from a convention, even including the screaming of the fans overlapping the audio from the video -- that’s how it actually is at Comic-Con. Watch and enjoy:

Although it features no real footage from Captain America: The First Avenger, it does still act as a good teaser and still sends the same message. For a real look at Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, check out the latest EW cover and this gallery of Captain America movie images.

Captain America: The First Avenger opens in theaters on July 22, 2011.

Video look: Make your Facebook pages better with Appbistro’s app store

You might not realize that I have two separate ways to interact with you on Facebook. The first is my Facebook Profile Page, which everyone on Facebook has. That’s at http://facebook.com/robertscoble. The problem is that I’m limited to 5,000 friends there and I’ve only been adding people I know.

The other way is to use a Facebook Public Page. Mine is at http://facebook.com/scobleizer. With these you can have unlimited numbers of contacts. These are the pages that brands and celebrities use to interact with fans and large audiences.

The problem is, it’s very easy to add widgets and new streams to your Profile page, but for brands and others who want to have a public Facebook page, it’s very difficult. Even getting YouTube videos onto those pages are more difficult than Profiles. Plus, apps that were made for Profiles often can’t be used on Public Pages.

Until now I was at a disadvantage when compared to brands that had large teams of Web developers who could spend the time getting things to work. What changed? Appbistro shipped.

What is Appbistro? It’s an app store with tons of apps designed for Facebook’s Public Pages.

I recently visited the team in its San Francisco office and here’s the video where we discover it together. You’ll see some of the most useful apps that you should add onto your Facebook Page. I’m looking through them today and have already added a YouTube app to my page.

Try This: ShortForm. Create your own video channel and become a VJ

November 12 2010 by admin in News |

ShortForm viewers can subscribe to, or create their own, channels of interest, and enjoy a continuous stream of short video clips similar to watching television.  In addition, the site provides a way to discover the best short video clips from around the web.

Enjoyed: Simple for all to get up and running with their own channel.  Ability to add videos uploaded to Facebook, the videos of one’s friends, and favorite videos from YouTube.

Annoyed: The process to add videos was not all that swift and could frustrate some users.

Overall: 4/5

YouTube is a great way to discover videos on how to do certain tasks, watch videos of any kind imaginable, and with Leanback, is an even better, and easier, way to kill time.  There are some issues with YouTube that make a new service, ShortForm, a really neat option for those that enjoy online video.

ShortForm is based San Francisco and features Nader Ghaffari as CEO, along with financing from NetService Ventures Group and IVF, touts itself as,

“a new entertainment medium, delivering endless channels of short videos, curated by our community of VJs.”

One of the grand features of ShortForm is that anyone can be a “VJ” (video jockey).  ShortForm users can subscribe to channels that interest them or create their own, and share anything they like with the world.

Getting started is super simple.  Enter your name, username, email address, and password.  That’s it.  Or, if that’s too much for you, sign up using your Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube account.

To make your channel snazzy, and to attract some fans, add a little information about yourself such as a profile picture, website, and more.

After profile creation is complete, jazz up your channel by adding videos you’ve uploaded to Facebook, videos of your friends, and favorite videos from YouTube.  Moreover, you can spice up your channel with a slick name, picture, and description, all with the hope that in doing so, you will increase your statistics, viewable on the dashboard created by ShortForm.

My channel doesn’t have any statistics because I am still uploading videos.  That is my issue with ShortForm at this point is the video import speed.  The process wasn’t swift for yours truly.  That said, the channels I’ve subscribed to are really interesting, with the channel below, “Super Cute,” being one of my favorites.

Why choose ShortForm when YouTube is available?  There are several reasons. First, the design of the site is top-notch.  As a fan of great design, YouTube’s pales in comparison to that of ShortForm.  Second, ShortForm is decidedly more social than YouTube.  Facebook, Twitter and YouTube integration make ShortForm a great deal more fun to use than YouTube by itself.  Finally, Leanback is still YouTube, but requires less user interaction.  Videos from Leanback are chosen at random by one’s YouTube preferences.  Conversely, ShortForm allows one to choose videos from a favorite VJ, and watch short clips as long as one desires.

Will ShortForm replace YouTube?  No, and that’s the genius of ShortForm.  ShortForm allows users to take videos uploaded to YouTube and/or Facebook, and create a music channel or follow channels of others.  One can’t upload videos directly to ShortForm like YouTube or Facebook.  Therefore, Facebook and YouTube are the repository of one’s videos with ShortForm being a home to custom channels created by users combining the best videos from each service.

Give ShortForm a try and let us know what you think.
